Curio Tower
|
|
There are several historic Arts & Crafts pieces of furniture that are
archtypical. Tall, slender, tapering shelves originally built by the
Roycrofters is one of those. Look at it and you know what the Arts &
Crafts style is all about. The proportions and balance are enhanced by
the expressed construction techniques, which are the tower's most
important embellishment.
|
|
The original sported the Roycrofters' logo, and when our client asked us
to recreate the tower, he asked if we had a logo to place in a similar
position on the side of the tower. That entailed designing something
worthy of the simple elegance of the tower. You'll note the DC incised
in the sides.

|
We consider the request high praise indeed, and not a little
responsibility: Whether it's credit or blame, there's no way to deny we
made this thing.
|
|
We did add one small feature, though. The original had a simple flat
bonnet topping the tower. We thought a small, unobtrusive drawer would
go there rather nicely. Besides, it's always nice to have a secret
place for passport and escape money.
