Prairie-Style Chair and Settle

One of the most readily recognized and easily identified examples of the cluster of Arts & Crafts styles is the invocation of the great American Prairie that came out of Chicago just after the turn of the 20th Century. The wide, flat design elements invoke the horizon and the culture that stretched from Illinois to the Rockies.

Prairie Cube Chair

The Prairie Cube Chair looks like it'd be as stern and uncomfortable as a three hour sermon. It's just as square, straight, solid and honest as a Nebraska wheat farmer. But it's neither stern nor uncomfortable. It's comfortable, a great place to really relax. The wide arms and back offer great arm rests for an extended period of taking one's ease. And it encourages body language which says, 'I'm open, comfortable, and in my element.' Which isn't a bad place to be.

The Prairie Settle does exactly the same thing as the Prairie Chair, but for two people, or maybe three, if they're really good friends. When both pieces are in the same room, there's an unmistakeable Arts & Crafts imprint on the room.
